What Is JA BizTown®?
BizTown is an immersive, hands-on learning experience where 5th-grade students run a city for a day. Students take on real jobs, manage money, and make decisions that mirror adult life.
Before Arrival to BizTown:
Students prepare in the classroom by:
Creating business plans
Learning workplace roles
Exploring careers
Understanding how consumers and businesses interact
At BizTown:
Students become citizens in a student-sized city where they:
Work real jobs and earn paychecks
Pay rent, taxes, and utilities
Manage bank accounts and insurance
Serve customers and operate businesses
Vote, lead, and collaborate as a community
With guidance from volunteer mentors, students make real decisions (and experience real consequences!) in a safe, engaging environment.
The Result:
BizTown connects the dots between what students learn and how it’s applied in the real world. This engaging, hands-on learning experience introduces young students to economic concepts, workplace skills, and personal and business finances in a student-sized town built just for them.
BizTown gives students a powerful first look at their future and the belief that they can succeed in it.
